MALAYSIA
 

As part of my work I have frequently visited Malaysia. Mostly Kuala Lumpur and Melaka, as my Singaporean partner has offices there. Not much tourism, not much adventure, mostly work. Presentations and Meetings.

To market and sell advanced visualizations to Malaysian companies is not an easy task. Most of the business is based on the right kind of connections, without them, you will have an even harder time selling anything to anyone in Malaysia. Its the 5th most corrupt country in the world, ruled completely by the Kings, 9 of them and all direct descendants from the Pirates. They have each a territory and take shift for the position as ruling king. Under them, you have a row of Tan Sri´s a title resembling a Knight or a Jarl, and further down you have different types of Lord´s or Datuk's  as they are called. some of them appointed, some of them has bought the title and for this honor they must pay a sum of money each year to their king.

I manage to find my way into the dinner tables of quite a few Datuk's, one of them was the right hand of the residing king.

I also manage to meet with a very important Tan Sri, the earlier head of finances for Malaysia, you can still find his signature on the bank notes. A very nice man, now retired.

And still, with all these connections its hard to sell, and even harder if you don't have a sum of money to offer them for their services.... that´s the Malay way of doing big business.
